Damion, a senior at The University of Minnesota, is seeking to become the school’s fourth four-time All-American wrestler, and to become their third two-time NCAA champion.
Damion, who wrestles at 197 lbs., ranks 29th in school history for wins with an 80-20-0 record.
In the 2002-03 season, Hahn went 5-0 at the NCAA’s and clinched the title at 197 lbs. with a 5-4 come from behind win.
Damion was out of competition until January this year due to a torn ACL dating back to April of last year. Hahn is no stranger to understanding what recovering from ailments is like. Two summers ago, his father suffered from kidney failure, and a short-time after that, he needed a triple coronary bypass.
Dealing with his father’s health is something Damion constantly has on his mind. He says his father is his role model, someone he looks up to and talks to about everything.
Damion hopes to become involved in elementary education, and to possibly train for the Olympics.
“The coaches believe in me that I can get an individual national title this year, and I believe it as much as they do,” Hahn said. “The bottom line is I have to work as hard as I can and give everything I’ve got for it.”
