Biography

Red began his long association with basketball in 1926, as a player at Styvesant High School. He played for Howard “Jake” Cann at NYU, where he starred for 3 years

Red immediately began coaching after college graduation starting at Franklin K. Lane High School. After Lane, he was an assistant at Styvesant, and during WWII Red worked with the Red Cross and coached throughout the nation.

From 1941 through 1980 Red was coach at Yeshiva College, Yeshiva Athletic Director, and he coached professional teams in the NY State League and the American Basketball League.

According to Lou Carnesecca, former St. John’s coach, Red is “one of the greatest offensive minds in basketball.”
