A veteran of U.S. national program, Jeff Agoos has worn the American jersey at many levels since 1985. Most recently, Agoos was a member of the 1998 World Cup team and the squad won bronze at the 1999 FIFA Confederations Cup in Mexico. He also was the captain of a squad that beat Guatemala 3-1 at the 1999 Nike U.S. Cup. Most important, he helped lead the U.S. to a second-place finish in the CONCACAF Gold Cup, thus securing a berth in Sydney.
As a versatile left-sided defender, Agoos helped lead D.C. United to four MLS Cup titles (1996, 1997, 1999 & 2000) and the 1998 Interamerican Cup championship. He was a finalist for Defender of the Year in 1997, and in 1999 he was voted onto the MLS "Best XI" team for the second time in his career. In his five-year stint with D.C. United, he has a total of 28 points and has been an All-Star each year.
